Both professional and amateur surfers take advantage of the Playa San Diego waves

With summer rolling around and surf season approaching, it’s easy to feel like you’re missing out. But one good thing about this time at home is the amount of planning you’ll be able to do. Think back to your last destination surf trip; was there something off or something that could have been there to make the experience even better? Luckily for you, you have this time to do your due diligence and find out what place will be best for you when the time to travel comes again. Time spent not travelling doesn’t have to be wasted, it can be spent finding ways to make the adventure better and more suited towards your wants and needs. But there’s a reason your research should start – and perhaps end – with Playa San Diego, located at Gran Pacifica Resort in Nicaragua.

Location, Location, Location

Surfer DudesGran Pacifica is the closest beachfront resort with several popular surf attractions nearest to Managua

One of Playa San Diego’s best features is its location at Gran Pacifica Resort. Gran Pacifica is located just about an hour west of Managua, and with the road to Gran Pacifica now complete, the ease of access is even greater. Once there you can experience with your own two eyes the vast amount of beach available, a total of 3.5 miles of breach access. Think back to the last time you surfed in a world-renowned area. Were you fighting for waves? Was there any point where you felt your day would have been made if you just could have caught that one wave? With this much space to move and accessible only through Gran Pacifica Resort, the waves here have the tendency to be uncrowded, leaving you plenty of room to surf the waves exactly how you like. Better yet, you don’t have to travel far to get geared since rental options are available onsite at Gran Pacifica; A full day's rental is only $29.00. Once you’ve tired yourself out and are ready to turn in, don’t worry about the drive home, you’re already at your rental with a variety of options available on the resort’s property.

Waves for Everybody

One caveat to having a good surf day is having the right waves for what you can handle or what you’re feeling. Luckily, the stretch of beach available at Playa San Diego includes areas to please every surfer, on every occasion. For the more seasoned surfers who are looking to challenge themselves, they can head over to the famous Meatgrinder for more aggressive breaks and larger barrels. Here, the fast-left point breaks over a shallow reef provide long rides in the tube. If that’s not what you’re looking for and need a less dramatic day, Asuchillo Beach offers a more relaxed experience that includes almond shaped barrels to be enjoyed by all. For our less experienced or out-right new to surfing friends, Gran Pacifica offers surf lessons that are designed to set anyone up for success. For just $39.00 you can get a 1 hour surf lesson, including the board rental and transportation to the beach.

A Great Time for All

Whether you are a seasoned or aspiring surfer, Gran Pacifica has the necessary elements for the perfect vacation. If your travel companions aren’t as tied to the board as you are, there’s activities to keep them entertained including golfing, horseback riding, fishing charters, and both open water and pool swimming. So go ahead and do some more research, or you can just skip that step and get yourself ready and planned for surfing at Gran Pacifica, and you’ll be able to experience first-hand why Gran Pacifica surf is worth the wait.
