Beauty for Ashes

Beauty for Ashes is a non-profit NGO which operates in the city of Managua. It was founded by Audra Omer and Kara Westermann, a former Gran Pacifica intern. The organization is based out of “La Chureca”, a former trash field of Managua, where a community of people has taken up residence. Beauty for Ashes has been able to achieve some amazing things, such as using some of the inorganic trash to create “eco-bricks”, which are used to create housing and do other construction projects to benefit the community at “La Chureca”.

Beauty for Ashes is involved in many other projects to improve life at “La Chureca”. A scholarship program has been established to send children from the neighborhood to private schools so that they can receive proper education. In addition, Beauty for Ashes has created programs to provide school supplies, such as back packs, pencils, paper and even shoes to local children. Many living hear cannot attend school because they lack these basic necessities. Beauty for Ashes also organizes community meals and art-therapy projects for children.

Gran Pacifica is proud to be associated with such an organization so dedicated to community improvement and social responsibility. If you’d like to learn more about Beauty for Ashes, visit
