COMMING TO NICARAGUA
There are several airlines that have nonstop flights to Managua, making it easy and quick to get to Nicaragua from the United States. In a matter of hours you can be on the beach enjoying cocktails and the sunset.
The United States airports that have non-stop connections to Managua are Miami (TACA and American Airlines), Houston (Continental Airlines), Atlanta (Delta Airlines), and Los Angeles (Delta Airlines). In addition, you can fly to another country in Central America and catch a flight to Managua from another country in the region. It is becoming easier to get here everyday.

Once in Nicaragua, there are several different ways to get around Nicaragua, and countless places to go. You have the option of renting a car, taking a taxi, or taking a bus. Taxis are cheap and fast, but very few have an intact air conditioning system, many windows cannot close or open, door handles are missing, and taxi drivers are often eager to pick up as many passengers as possible which can surely limit the level of comfort. Despite these limitations, driving around in a taxi can be fun and with a basic knowledge of the Spanish language it is easy to get engaged in a conversation with the often friendly taxi drivers. Taxis do not use meters, so be sure to always agree on a price before getting into a taxi.
Buses are another option, but perhaps not for the faint of heart. The routes are far more complicated to understand, and the cheaper fare means more adventure and less comfort. But for an adventurous spirit, the bus is a very Nicaraguan method of transportation, as long as you can figure out how to get where you want to go.
Probably the easiest way of getting around is renting a car, which you can do with or without a driver included. Obviously the driver will know how to get pretty much anywhere you want to go, but if a total lack of street signs and directions made up of numbers of blocks toward the lake do not phase you, then driving around the city and the countryside can be very rewarding, if not a little bit bumpy.
In addition to these independent modes of transportation, there are several tour groups that offer transport, and any time you come to visit Gran Pacifica, we are more than happy to arrange for transport to and from the airport, hotels, and the property. Contact us at: info@granpacifica.com
The Weather and your Visit to Nicaragua
Nicaragua has two seasons: dry and rainy. May through October is the rainy season, and December through April is the most dry period. Both times have their draws. Everything is green during the rainy season. However, it rains every day, almost without fail, in the afternoon. In Nicaragua’s summer, it never rains, which ensure long afternoons of sun at the beach, but it is extremely hot and dry, and the landscapes change from lush green to dry browns. Depending on the purpose of the visit, weather may have little or all to do with what time of year to visit Nicaragua. Peak times are around the December holidays and other national holidays in April and August.
Managua, the capitol of Nicaragua, is an interesting city due to the way it has developed over the years. It does not have a real central downtown, which makes it not so much a tourist-friendly city. In Managua, you can find all the modern amenities without problems; however it is needed to have a vehicle to get around. It is especially necessary to get to some of the places where the most exciting and stunning natural spectacles can be found, and where you can do the most adventurous things.
Nicaragua has no shortage of things to do, places to go, and sights to see. Whether you like surfing down black volcanoes, or surfing the country’s best waves, or exploring the awe-inspiring cloud forest, this country has activities for you in spades. The beauty of this still developing nation is that you can do these amazing activities for very low prices, and you are still guaranteed a very memorable experience.
In addition to adventures and exploratory nature activities, Nicaragua is home to one of the most exquisite Spanish Colonial Cities in the Americas, Granada. Quickly becoming a tourist attraction in itself, Granada is made up of colorful buildings surrounding a central plaza, on the shores of the world’s largest freshwater lake, Lake Nicaragua (or Cocibolca). The food in Granada is excellent, as is the culture on display throughout the city.

In addition to adventure and cultural tourism, community service tourism has a huge potential in Nicaragua, as there is always someone to be helped. Several international organizations have chapters in Nicaragua to help the people of this country improve the quality of their lives, health care, education, and overall wellbeing.
