Gran Pacifica Resort Nicaragua Golf Update
August Pacifica Golf Associates Update
The time is marching on toward our opening of the first 9 holes, the Emerald Nine in December. The official dates for opening will be as follows: Thursday December 3rd members only will be allowed to play, with a member only cocktail party starting at 5:00 PM, members please make your tee times. Our tee system will be in operation with phone numbers etc. in November.
Friday December 4th the course will be open for guests and regular play. On all days tee times start at 7:30AM and proceed at 10 minute intervals throughout the day. Nine and eighteen hole play is allowed at any of the tee times. Eighteen hole play will be encouraged as the course will play considerably different from the front side to the backside. 4 Holes will be played one 9 as a par 4 or par 5 and vice versa on the next nine. There are very different sets of tees and also different fairways to play. The scorecards are being printed along with other information and a packet will be sent out when all is completed. Most of this will also be on the website which we are now completing. A 3 month revolving calendar of events for the Club will be available on the website and also published in the "Homeowners Newsletter".
The course itself is progressing nicely. It is now time to mow, irrigate, overseed, fertilize, and then start and do it all over again. Joe is doing a lot of training and the crew has come a long way. They are learning golf and turf grass maintenance and I think are getting a little excited as the look and feel of a true golf course is coming to fruition. Not much rain so far this rainy season, I guess that’s why over 680 irrigation heads were installed on this 1st nine holes and the practice range. We still have the wettest months of September and October but at this time the turf has been established and few washouts will occur.
The clubhouse is also looking good, walls and roof are up, tile floor is being laid, actually it is ahead of schedule probably due to the lack of rain and the job that Laurindo’s crew is doing. They are pushing me to pick light fixtures, counter material, bathroom fixtures etc. Also the custom work is well underway. Although this initial building is rather small, it should serve our purpose well. There will be very little seating inside but there is a large shaded patio area outside. Enough room for short order and beverage and any other space inside will be used for pro shop merchandise. Much of it has been selected and ordered along with equipment for display and the kitchen and bar. Lots of time consuming details which pay off and are important in the long term. Until the next update treat your short chips to your putting stroke.
