Nicaragua isn’t known as the “land of lakes and volcanos” for just any reason. This country is awash with geographic beauty. Flying over the country in a plane, cruising down the highways, however you’re traveling through Nicaragua, you will certainly notice the country’s beauty.

Nicaragua is home to a multitude of volcanos. This makes it an excellent destination for those who enjoy viewing these geographic wonders. One of Nicaragua’s volcanos in particular, the Masaya Volcano, is garnering particular interest. Many tourists to Nicaragua are flocking to this volcano due to its amazing beauty and its unique features. One aspect of Masaya that makes it particularly attractive to travelers is the ease with which it can be accessed. The Masaya Volcano is located within the greater Masaya National Park. The park features paved roads and even has a museum. It is located only a mere half hour drive from Nicaragua’s capital.

Masaya is an incredibly unique volcano, in many ways. One aspect that makes it particularly unique is that it boats a lake of incandescent magma. Let me explain what this means. Remember when you were a child, and first learned about volcanos, and you assumed that all the volcanoes in the world just had big lakes of magma sitting around inside of them that you could easily view? (I know that’s how I thought volcanoes worked). Well, for the vast majority of volcanoes in the world, that’s not how it works. However, for 3 very special volcanoes, that is how it works. Those 3 volcanoes are Kilauea in Hawaii, Nyiragongo in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Masaya in Nicaragua. The fact that tourists can view an actual lake of molten fire inside Masaya makes it an incredibly attractive volcano to visit.

Masaya is so unique, in fact, that National Geographic has decided to film a documentary about the volcano. Filming began earlier this year, and pretty soon you will be able to explore this astounding and unique volcano from the comfort of your home. Of course, this pales in comparison to the excitement and unforgettableness of seeing the volcano in person. Not only is the view of the magma beautiful, but one can also see massive groups of green parrots and bats flying around the volcano, as both of these birds live inside of the volcano. Those vacationing in Nicaragua will certainly be remiss if they don’t include a stop to Masaya.

When vacationing in Nicaragua, you will definitely want to have Masaya Volcano on your list. This volcano is one of the most unique in the entire world. It is also getting the attraction of a great many tourists, and for good reason. If you’re looking for adventure and a unique experience, you will love vacationing in Nicaragua. You will also love seeing the one-of-a-kind Masaya Volcano.
