Managua is the capital of Nicaragua, and a very modern and thriving city. One can find just about anything they are looking for in Managua, from fine dining to street food, high culture to local entertainment, luxury shopping in one of the city’s many malls or a more local, artisan shopping experience in the Huembes Market. Managua has something for everyone.

Big things are happening in Managua. The city has multiple improvements proposed, under way or even completed to bring even more life and entertainment to this already vibrant city. Earlier this year, $25 million was invested in the renovation and expansion of the Galerías Santo Domingo Shopping Center. In addition, $35 million have been set aside for the construction of a new national baseball stadium in the city.

Managua has big plans for their new baseball stadium. Ground work has already begun, having started in January of this year. The Municipality has also begun the construction of the vertical works. When it’s completed, the stadium will be able to hold 20,000 spectators. Completion is expected by 2017, in time to host the Central American and Caribbean Games.

One of Managua’s major shopping centers has also undergone major renovations and improvements lately. The Galerías Santo Domingo Shopping Center received $25 million worth of renovations and expansion earlier this year. Some of those expansions included the introduction of a Hyatt Place Hotel with 145 rooms. The parking structure for the mall was also upgraded, and it now has the ability to accommodate more than 1,400 vehicles, making it the largest parking structure in the country.

Managua is rife with other improvements as well. A plan to reorder the city has been proposed and is in the works. This plan intends to reorder the city to “meet the economic, social and environmental needs of the Nicaraguan capital, by improving the current conditions in the city.” The plan also hopes to improve the conditions for foreign investment in the city. It was proposed in July of this year, work has begun on the plan, and it should be finished and begin implementation sometime within the next year.

In his Independence Day Speech, given in the beginning of September, President Daniel Ortega announced plans to revitalize many of the city’s parks and green spaces, as well as install hundreds of new street lights to brighten up the city at night. In addition, the two largest mobile carriers in Nicaragua, Claro and Movistar, have also announced, in the past month, that they will begin offering 4G service in Managua.

Managua has a lot going for it, and it’s only getting better. You’ll want to book a trip down here to explore this magnificent city. And what better place to stay than at Gran Pacifica? Only an hour from the city, and offering premiere beach access, luxury condos and houses, and a wide array of other amenities, Gran Pacifica is the perfect place to stay while you relax and explore Nicaragua.
